Cover Plain Chipboard with Patterned Paper

Try my tips on covering chipboard and end up with a neatly, finished product!
  • Trace reverse chipboard shape onto the back of patterned paper.
  • Cut our paper shape.
  • Cover chipboard with a thin layer of paper adhesive. I like Zip Dry!
  • Adhere paper to chipboard and place under phone book or other heavy item til dry.
  • Use a sharp craft knife to trim the edges.
  • For a finished result, sand and ink the edges.

Scrapbook Your Heritage!

An admitted genealogy geek, I love that I am able to combine my interest in family history with my passion for paper arts! This particular layout is a family photo of my husbands great-grandfather and great-great grandparents. I used PhotoShop to highlight the family members who are his direct ancestors.

We Survived

With the recent Haiti earthquake disaster in the news, it got me thinking how very lucky we have been in escaping our own disasters. Though nowhere near as devastating as the Haiti earthquake, we managed to survive a dastardly hurricane named Charley with only home damage...no loss of life or desperate medical needs, as is being experienced this week.

Supplies:

Paper: KI Memories Keepsake Collection, Bazzill Cardstock

Mini Round Brads, Frame & Corner Brads

Gingham Ribbon

Prima Flowers

ExpressOns Rub On Alphabet

Loopy Brad

Photo Anchor

Brown Cat's Eye Ink

Machine Stitching

Journaling:

On Friday, 13 September, 2004, category 4, Hurricane Charley, hit Florida's gulf coast with sustaned winds of 145 mph and made its way directly to Orlando. With reported gusts of 105 mph, the eye of the storm passed directly over our area in the dark of night, destroying our pool screen enclosure, blowing water into our air vents and into the house, and taking down trees, gutters, and shingles.

In our neighborhood, we lost a few material things, some big and some small, but we didn't lose sight of what's important. Being one of the few houses that miraculously had power the next day, we invited our friends and neighbors to come over, enjoy the air conditioning, use the stove, coffeepot, and other essentials.

The guys, wanting to feel useful, helped us remove the pool screen debris and then seemed more than content to sit outside and take in the storm's aftermath. I can't help but notice how the expressions on their faces reflect some of the shock and strain that we had all just experienced, but also the contentment and thankful hearts that we all shared, knowing that we had safely survived a true disaster

Hide Scrapbook Journaling Behind a Large Photo

This is a scrapbook page I created several years ago when my son went off to college. The journaling was lengthy and personal, so I chose to "hide" it underneath the large photo using hinges.

Print text in a Circle

In order to type a title, phrase, or journaling in a circle and then print it onto a project, just follow these simple instructions! [tutorial is for Microsoft Word]

1. In Microsoft Word 2007, open Word Art (blue slanted Upper Case A) and you will be prompted to choose your preferred font, size, and style. Click OK.

2. The Word Art toolbar opens. Click on "Change Shape" and choose the circle. The initial shape will probably be more oval than circular. Simply drag a corner of the box until the shape is a circle.

That's it! Easy peasy!
